From year to year, reported cases of STD's have grown. Unfortunately, the more scary factor is the number of STD's that have not been tallied. Who's out there right now with an STD and doesn't know it?
For example, in 2009 there were approximately 46,000 reported cases of Chlamydia within the Chicago area (Chicago, Naperville and Joliet) alone! This is nearly 5,000 cases higher than the 2005's total. Additionally, there were 15,000 cases of Gonorrhea in Chicago according to 2009 results. Furthermore in 2009, there were nearly 2,000 cases of syphilis. As for HIV and AIDS, there were more than 26,000 people living with HIV in Chicago (according to the year-end results of 2007). And in 2008 alone, there were just under 2,000 people diagnosed HIV positive and 846 diagnosed with AIDS. By the end of 2007, there were over 14,000 people living with AIDS in the Chicago area! Unbelievable? As scary as these statistics may be, realize that you are your own person. You can avoid being a part of any of these numbers if you are responsible, respectful of yourself and others, and most importantly, act in a way that will prevent you from getting a disease (abstinence is the only guara

If you're a pregnant mother in Chicago, you should definitely consider getting tested for a sexually transmitted disease, especially HIV, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, and syphilis. Other STD's that women may have during pregnancy but may not know they have include:
There are many pertinent and extremely crucial reasons why women should be tested for an STD prior to giving birth to their child. Firstly, the child is at risk of being infected by the mother's STD through vertical transmission. Vertical transmission is when the baby is infected by the mother's STD either directly before or after her giving birth. Many of these STD infections can be avoided through simple detection and treatment. For example, the STD, syphilis, can be completely cured if found and treated early. Unfortunately, there are diseases such as hepatitis B and genital herpes (viral infections) that cannot be treated by antibiotics prior to conception. Instead, doctors may prescribe anti-viral medication that may reduce the likelihood of an infected mother's child of contracting a viral STD. There are many additional STD-related problems during pregnancy. These include but are not limited to:
In the end, don't take a risk with your child. Local STD testing clinics in Chicago can prevent your child from suffering through life with a sexually transmitted disease.
Chicago, located in Cook County, leads the nation in reported cases of gonorrhea as well as the third highest reported cases of chlamydia. Because of these high levels of reported cases, Chicago high schools will increase education and testing of sexually transmitted diseases.
There is hope that these efforts will decrease cases of STDs. The funding is provided by the Chicago Department of Public Health and will be free for students and their families. HUGE NEWS!!
WebMD has reported a new drug recently approved by the FDA, known as Complera. A combination of two medicines forged into one pill, Complera will be a one-a-day pill designed for those recently diagnosed with HIV after taking a STD test at a testing center, who have yet to begin a treatment regiment. Before, patients who were able to afford HIV treatment had to take a “drug cocktail” of a multitude of pills that ran the risk of interacting with other medicines for plenty of side effects. Complera will be a one-a-day pill, which not only means patients won’t be prescribed the “drug cocktail” of pills, but now treating their HIV will be more affordable. In other words, if you recently took an STD test in Chicago and were diagnosed with HIV, one pill a day means less medicine, less side effects, and the possibility of being more affordable than the "drug cocktail" of pills. Let us hope we see Complera available for prescription soon! Collegiate STD Testing
Sex in itself has become ingrained into the minds of our society’s youth. In a way, STD testing in Chicago has built a safety net for sex. Many believe that if they have promiscuous and unprotected sex - resulting in an STD - they’ll just get an STD test and everything is fine. Sex is a natural feeling for everyone, however sex was at one time approached in a much more respectful manner. There was once a day when tradition was customary and respect was mandatory. Long ago, STD testing in Chicago wasn’t pandemic or as necessary. However today, we face the rebellion of our youth; college equals partying and unfortunately partying means pandemic sexual incidents where students put themselves in dangerous infections at all costs. What happens to those who continually put themselves in dangerous scenarios where unprotected sex is accepted and promoted? In the end, lifestyles catch up to us. Unprotected sexual intercourse can prove to be a means to an end. Thus, it is extremely important to not only respect yourself but others even more! Get tested at your local STD testing center in Chicago if you have been in a situation like one below: Situation 1 You’re a freshman in college and you have made some friends quickly. These friends tend to be questionable influences for you and have promoted irresponsible actions since your freshman orientation. You could easily them saying things such as, “oh, man I would totally hit that” or “I would tap that”. Now, you face the challenge of being a strong individual against the sometimes-insurmountable odds of peer pressure. During the weekend, your friends throw the party and invite you to it.You show up and drink until you are intoxicated. You walk up to one of those girls a friend of yours was talking about and you both decide to have sex. The next morning you wake up to find out that you were so drunk you forgot to use a condom - the thoughts and feelings you have are associated with fear and angst, and you have no idea what to do. An STD testing center in Chicago shows you that you didn’t acquire any infections or diseases, luckily. Situation 2 You like to go out and party. There is not a night that goes by where good times are not had by all. Following each weekend you post dozens of drunk pictures online to various social networks. You have put thought into possibly stopping your activities for good but, for you, they’re just too much fun and you’re addicted.. All of your friends have had run-ins with STD testing centers in Chicago and there is a strong possibility that your friends will be visiting an STD testing center at least one more time. They're planning a huge birthday bash complete with 30-packs, girls and the works. The question you face is “what do you do?” Do you decide that partying was your past and you are moving on? On the other hand, do you choose to party…one…more…time? You picked the last choice and got, in your friends’ words, “annihilated”. Because of this, you made many risky choices and you took part in dangerous and unprotected sex - leaving you worried and paranoid about your health Avoiding sexually transmitted diseases and precarious STD testing in Chicago is relatively simple - don’t put yourself in situations that place your health at risk. Life will throw you many different dilemmas ranging from simple math to whether or not you make the decision to have intercourse with the guy or girl you just met. It’s important to have self-respect and self-esteem. No one likes the STD testing process…then why go through it? Abstinence leaves no worries for not only yourself but others too.
